South Africa vs Sri Lanka Schedule-2018 Fixtures

As South Africa take on Sri Lanka,we bring to you South Africa vs Sri Lanka Schedule-2018 Fixtures/South Africa vs Sri Lanka Schedule-2018 Fixtures.

South Africa vs Sri Lanka Schedule

South Africa are scheduled to tour Sri Lanka for 2 Tests, 5 ODIs and 1 T20 post the ABD era. In addition to the International fixtures mentioned above,South Africa would play 2 Warm-up games-one before the tests and the other one before the One Days. The Matches would be played within a window of 45 days-that is one hectic schedule. The matches would be played across different parts of the country with P Sara Oval, Galle International Stadium and Sinhalese Sports Club hosting one test apiece. Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, Pallekele International Cricket Stadium and R.Premadasa Stadium would get their fair share with 2 limited over matches each. The Series marks South Africa’s first assignment in Sri Lanka since 2014. The last time they did come here, they won both the ODI and the Test series. You,however, can’t compare that South Africa to South Africa of today. That side was the top ranked site that held the Top ranking for a lifetime. This one is struggling with retirements, injuries and insecurities.

South Africa vs Sri Lanka Squads

South Africa

Faf du Plessis is set to Captain the side in all 3 formats of the game. Hashim Amla, Quinton De Kock, Kagiso Rabada, Keshav Maharaj, Aiden Makram,Heinrich Klaasen and Tabraiz Shamsi are the only others to have been included in all three formats.

Dale Steyn returns for the Two tests where he would spear-head South Africa’s pace attack alongside Philander and Rabada. Lot has changed over the years. South Africa have found newer bowlers, Steyn isn’t the bowler he once was and by neglecting him in the Limited Overs circuit, the Selectors have made it clear that they intend him to train for the Longer Circuit and not to focus on the World Cup.

The South African Test side is heavy on Pacers which is a surprise given the turning turfs in Sri Lanka. Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi are the only known ones. Dean Elgars can turn a few but this would be inadequate. I don’t have many expectations from this side going into the tests while they may actually pull out some limited overs success.

Imran Tahir missing out was shocking in a sense that he hasn’t played for Africa since February. South Africa’s convener of selectors Linda Zondi explained that leaving Tahir out had less to do with him and more to do with the other spinners in contention for the World Cup squad, and confirmed Tahir is still set to be premier player in that department. “We have taken the strategic decision to rest Imran Tahir so that we can get a clearer picture as to who our best second spinner is to back him up at the World Cup. Imran will be our first- choice spinner at the World Cup but, if we play him against Sri Lanka, it is unlikely that we will be able to play both Tabraiz Shamsi and Keshav Maharaj,” Zondi said. “By taking this route, we will be able to play the two of them together.

Sri Lanka

Note: Sri Lanka haven’t yet announced the ODI and T20 Squad.

Dinesh Chandimal would head Sri Lanka’s defense. As acquaintance he would have the services of Kusal Mendis- the best Sri Lankan batsman in the West Indies tour, Suranga Lakmal and the young pace sensation Kasun Rajitha. Herath and Dhananjaya do add to spin power-a key ingredient missing from South African ranks.
