What to Expect
Not often that you see two Pak Ind games scheduled within a week. The bi-laterals are long gone and political tensions have ensured that sporting fixtures are minimal. Cricket has been hit the worst. This all, tragic as it is, has ensured that whenever Pakistan do meet India, it is a high voltage affair. The recent Indo-Pak game, though, have failed to live up to they hype. Take the last match as an example. Despite Pakistan entering as the Stronger of two sides on paper, they tumbled like a set of cards. India hardly had to break a sweat in their quest of a very modest 162. This ain’t what the Indo-Pak rivalry stands for. The Indo-Pak stands out for Miandad’s last ball six, for Afridi’s heroics, for Imran’s tigers defending 120 odd. Whoever may win this, just hope for a close contest. We need it but most importantly the rivalry needs it.
India have been the dominating side this tournament. Having overcome a a near debacle against Hong Kong, they have displayed the character of a Champion. Pakistan were thwarted and Bangladesh brushed away. More than their batting, their bowling has been spot on. History tells us that whenever Indian bowlers have done well, India has done well. The problem with Indian batting is that they lack depth. A couple of wickets down and India would struggle bad. Their reliance on Top-Order got them in Champions Trophy and with the right tactics, can be exploited.
Pakistan would have been boasted by their win over Afghanistan. They were far from their best but such close wins do boast a team’s morale. Expect them to improve each game from now on. Pakistan are struggling because their main man,Fakhar,is struggling. Fakhar has 2 ducks in this Asia Cup. Before this,he had 0 in 17 innings. And why is Fakhar struggling? Because he is trying to force things on these tracks. That is not the way to go. The Captain looks all out of sorts and needs to step up.
All in all, the mind calls India. The heart is contend with Pakistan. The Heart is silly!!
Head 2 Head
Pakistan and India have played each other 139 times. Pakistan have won 73 of them while India have only managed 53 of them. 4 matches ended without a determined result. What astonishes me is that between the two arch rivals, only one of the last 5 games has gone to the wire-Pakistan won that one. Other than that, it has all been India and for instant, Pakistan:Champions League Final. We really do hope that this one lives up to the hype.
