Bangladesh are scheduled to play 3 T20s this week against West Indies. The first is to be played on 31st July 2018 at Warner Park, Basseterre, St Kitts. The Match is scheduled for start at 5:30 AM PKT / 6:00 AM IST / 12:30 AM GMT  / 08:30 PM LOCAL.A cloudy day is forecasted at St Kitts. Don’t worry! No forecast of rain has been made. The temperature would fluctuate around 28 Degree Celsius for most part of the game. Overcast conditions may help the bowl to swing.  The Pitch is on the slower side. You can score well if you dig in. Quality bowlers have had success-both pacers and spinners. This one is a 160-180 pitch unless either side plays woefully. Add the Overcast skies and the target lowers. If I were to bet I would bet at first innings total of around 150-160.

Bangladesh enter as favourites, having won the ODI series 2-1. They could have clean sweeped wasn’t it for a batting debacle in the 2nd ODI. Their ODI success is not the main reason for me predicting a Bangladeshi victory. There are way more sinister reasons. Plus, I ain’t foolish enough to give a match to a team based on performance in a different format. If anything this tour has taught us is that form can vary across different formats.

What surprises me is that West Indies haven’t announced their Squad as of yet. May I remind you-we are only 9 hours away from the game itself. This actually does demonstrate that West Indies are having trouble listing out 15 men they want for this tour. That ain’t a rare scenario as far as West Indies Cricket is concerned.

After a long time Bangladesh have finally posted a full strength squad. Over the past years there were issues due to Shakib taking a break and Mustafizur Rahman’s injuries. Bangladeshi still did well. You may argue that they were poor given that Bangladesh have lost the last 4 series they have played and that this is terrible for a side that has been playing International Cricket for 2 decades. Bangladesh do not, however, get many games a year and even if they do get them, they aren’t against quality sides.

Bangladesh have come close to victory more often than not and then thrown it away in the last over. They have been extremely unlucky too. They could have won Nidhas Trophy wasn’t it for Karthik’s last ball six. If they could just address the issue, they could be World Beaters.

Just look at the Squad. You have Tamim and Sarkar to open with. I don’t need to justify Tamim and as a Pakistani Cricket fan I still remember how Sarkar ruthlessly rammed us to a Whitewash. Then you have Shakib, Mushfiqur and Sabbir to provide stability. Shakib is without doubt the best All-rounder we have seen in a while. Mushfiqur for me would be Bangladesh’s best batsman over the last 5 years. He is the Best Asian Wicket Keeper Batsman as of now and I feel no shame or inferiority in saying so. Mahmudullah has adopted well to the Finisher Role. Bangladesh don’t have the worst bowling attack going around. While Fizz has bamboozled the best, others aren’t walkovers too.

I wish I could comment on West Indies in the same way but their Squad hasn’t been announced off yet. One thing for sure, West Indies have adopted a style of play we in Pakistan call ‘Thullay Bazi‘- performing once in a blue moon and winning your side the Match. West Indies field 11 World Beaters who on their day can turn the Match around single-handedly. That I hope does explain their inconsistency.

This format suits West Indian style of play but over the last few years West Indies have had trouble fielding the top 11 players. Players prefer leagues over International Matches. If West Indies can field 11 of their top players and one of them does find form, they would win it.

Form Guide:

Bangladesh have won only 1 of the last 5 matches they have played. 3 of these losses have come against Afghanistan. Bangladesh have won one of the last 5 matches these 2 sides have played together. Interestingly, West Indies have also won 1 of the last 5 matches they have played-against the World 11. Having won 3 of their matches against Bangladesh, however, they do have history on their sides.

Shakib Al Hasan(c), Tamim Iqbal, Soumya Sarkar, Liton Das, Mushfiqur Rahim, Sabbir Rahman, Mahmudullah, Mosaddek Hossain, Mehidy Hasan, Nazmul Islam, Rubel Hossain, Mustafizur Rahman, Abu Hider Rony, Abu Jayed, Ariful Haque

West Indies haven’t announced their Squad as of yet….
